UTOPIA HOME CARE’S 2008 CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Today we are honoring Utopia Home Care's 2008 Caregiver of the year
MARCIA WILLIAMS

Utopia Honors Marcia Williams with its Fourth Annual 'Caregiver of the Year' Award

Marcia has worked for Utopia Home Care since January 2001, after taking our Personal Care aide training course and later upgraded to a Home Health Aide.

Marcia comes from a background of care-giving. She and her mother cared for the sick and elderly in her native Jamaica, West Indies. They would shop, cook, bring food and collect donations for those who couldn't help themselves. It was only natural that when Marcia came to the U.S. she would gravitate towards working as a caregiver. Marcia's husband was already working in the U.S. before Marcia joined him. Marcia raised four children, three boys and one girl. Her children are now 13, 18, 20 and 25. Her 25 year old son has been serving in Iraq for the past three years. Marcia also has a 4 year old grandchild.

Coordinators and Supervising nurses cannot say enough about Marcia. As Lisa, Office Manager of our Babylon branch said, "I wish I had a hundred Marcia's. She will take on problem cases that no one else wants to work". Marcia has won over many a skeptical family and difficult patient. Wherever she goes, patients and families welcome her back. One of Marcia's cases was a retarded and severely handicapped 30 year old woman. This patient could not speak or walk. She could only crawl on the floor. It was a very difficult and heartbreaking case. The family was amazed at what their daughter would do for Marcia that she wouldn't do for anyone else. This woman's face would light up when she saw Marcia. She would open her arms to Marcia and smile. She was truly happy to see her.

As the patient's mother wrote to Utopia, "Marcia is an honest, caring and very patient human being. She is just wonderful. She has an easy manner and puts us at ease. She has a very special way with people".

It is with great pleasure and honor that we award this special lady, Marcia Williams, with Utopia Home Care's Caregiver of the Year Award and a check for one thousand dollars.
